Snap Decibel Meter is a free, browser-based sound level estimation tool that uses your device's built-in microphone to approximate environmental sound levels.

The Service may display: estimated decibel (dB) readings, visual sound level indicators, minimum, maximum, and average values, and heuristic sound environment classifications (e.g., conversation, traffic noise).

All measurements are approximate estimates generated using consumer hardware and browser-based signal processing.

The Service is intended for educational, informational, and general awareness purposes only.

The sound level readings generated by Snap Decibel Meter are not calibrated and may vary significantly depending on device hardware, microphone quality, browser implementation, and environmental conditions.

The Service applies A-weighting using the filter defined in IEC 61672 and offers an optional one-point calibration that you perform yourself against a reference reading you supply, stored locally on your device. It performs no laboratory calibration, and no accuracy tolerance relative to professional sound level meters is stated or implied. Without calibration, readings are signal levels in decibels relative to digital full scale and are not sound pressure levels.

Snap Decibel Meter does not comply with professional sound measurement standards, including but not limited to IEC 61672 or equivalent regulatory measurement standards.

Accordingly, the Service must not be used for: legal or regulatory compliance measurements, occupational noise exposure assessments, workplace safety decisions, medical or hearing-health diagnostics, or environmental noise regulation enforcement.

If accurate or certified measurements are required, users must consult qualified professionals using properly calibrated instruments.

Sound level measurements generated by Snap Decibel Meter depend entirely on the hardware capabilities of the user's device.

Different smartphones, tablets, and computers use microphones with varying sensitivity, frequency response, and internal signal processing. Because of this variability, the optional one-point calibration you perform applies only to your own device and capture path, and the Service cannot guarantee consistent measurement results across different devices.

Measurements provided by the Service should therefore be interpreted as indicative estimates rather than precise acoustic measurements.

The Service does not require account creation, registration, or submission of personal information.

By using the Service, you represent that you have the legal capacity to agree to these Terms under the laws of your jurisdiction.

The Service requires access to your device's microphone in order to estimate sound levels.

Microphone access is requested only when you initiate a measurement session. You are responsible for granting or denying microphone permissions through your browser settings.

All microphone data is processed locally within your browser and is not transmitted to our servers, as described in our Privacy Policy.

To understand how the website is used and to improve functionality, the Service may collect limited, anonymous usage information through Google Analytics 4.

Analytics data may include: page views, general geographic region, browser and device type, and interaction events such as tool usage.

This data is aggregated and does not include audio recordings, measurement data, or personally identifiable information.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Snap Decibel Meter and its creators, developers, contributors, and affiliates shall not be liable for any damages arising from the use or inability to use the Service.
