Snap Decibel Meter ("we", "our", or "the Service") is a free, browser-based sound level measurement tool available at snapdecibelmeter.com and is designed with privacy as a core principle.

This Privacy Policy explains what information may be accessed when you use the Service, how that information is processed, and the measures taken to protect user privacy.

Our primary design goal is simple: audio data should never leave your device.

The Service requests permission to access your device's microphone solely for the purpose of estimating environmental sound levels in real time.

When permission is granted, the microphone signal is processed locally in your browser using the Web Audio API. Audio signals are analyzed to estimate decibel (dB) levels. The processing occurs entirely on your device. The Service does not record, store, transmit, or upload audio data.

Specifically: no audio recordings are created, no audio samples are stored, and no audio data is transmitted to servers or third parties.

The microphone is activated only when the user explicitly initiates a measurement session (for example by pressing the Start button). Microphone access ends when the user stops the measurement or closes the page.

The noise measurement tool itself does not collect personal data.

In particular, the Service does not collect: audio recordings, measurement results, personal identifiers, account information, device identifiers, or precise location data.

Measurement statistics shown within the interface (such as minimum, maximum, or average decibel levels) exist only in the application's temporary runtime memory. These values are not transmitted to any server, are not stored persistently, and are automatically cleared when the page is refreshed or closed.

The application does not use localStorage, IndexedDB, or other persistent client-side storage to retain measurement history.

The website may use minimal analytics to understand general usage patterns such as page views, approximate geographic region, device type, and browser type. This information helps us improve the website and user experience.

Analytics data may include anonymized interaction events such as starting or stopping a sound measurement session, which help us understand how the tool is used.

Analytics data does not include: audio data, measurement results, personal identifiers, or microphone input.

The Service does not use tracking technologies for behavioral advertising, cross-site tracking, retargeting, or user profiling.

Any cookies used are limited to essential website functionality.

Snap Decibel Meter is intentionally designed to minimize external dependencies. The application does not embed third-party services that process or receive microphone data.

The website does not use a service worker for offline caching. Static files such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and images are loaded through the browser like a normal website.

No browser caching mechanism used by the website accesses or stores microphone data.

All communication between your browser and the website is encrypted using HTTPS.

Because audio processing occurs locally within your browser and is never transmitted, the risk of interception or external access to audio data is significantly reduced.

Additionally, the Service does not maintain user accounts, does not operate a database of measurement data, and does not store audio files. As a result, there is no centralized data store containing user audio information.

The Service is not directed toward children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age under applicable law).

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The Service does not require account creation or submission of personal details.

If you believe a child has provided personal information through the website, please contact us so the matter can be addressed.

Depending on your location, applicable privacy regulations such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) may apply.

Because the Service does not collect or store personal data through the measurement tool, our data processing is limited to: providing the requested functionality, maintaining website performance, and anonymous analytics for service improvement.

Where applicable, this processing is based on legitimate interests in operating and improving the website.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in technology, updates to legal requirements, or improvements to the Service.

When updates occur, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will be revised. Continued use of the Service after changes indicates acceptance of the updated policy.
