Snap Decibel Meter offers an optional one-point calibration that you perform yourself against a reference reading you trust. It is stored locally on your device. It does not make the Service a calibrated instrument and it cannot compensate for the frequency response of your microphone.

The Service displays a signal level in decibels relative to digital full scale before calibration, and an estimated A-weighted level after you complete your own calibration, based on real-time analysis of your device's microphone signal.

These outputs are intended to provide general awareness of sound intensity and should not be interpreted as precise or authoritative measurements.

Smartphone and laptop microphones are not calibrated acoustic instruments.

Consumer microphones (commonly MEMS microphones) vary significantly between devices in terms of sensitivity, frequency response, dynamic range, noise floor characteristics, and internal signal processing.

Snap Decibel Meter applies A-weighting using the filter defined in IEC 61672 and offers an optional one-point calibration that you perform locally against a reference reading you supply. It performs no laboratory calibration, and no accuracy tolerance relative to professional sound level meters is stated or implied. Uncalibrated readings are signal levels in dBFS and are not sound pressure levels.

The Service is intended for short-term indicative measurements and is not designed for continuous environmental noise monitoring.

Additional factors that may influence readings include: wind or airflow across the microphone, reflections from nearby surfaces, microphone orientation and placement, phone cases or physical obstructions, background noise conditions, and device-specific audio processing.

Many operating systems and browsers also apply automatic audio processing such as automatic gain control (AGC), noise suppression, and echo cancellation. These processes may alter the raw audio signal and further affect measurement accuracy.

Snap Decibel Meter must not be used for any safety-critical, regulatory, or legally binding measurements, including but not limited to: occupational noise exposure assessments, workplace safety compliance (e.g., OSHA exposure limits), environmental noise impact studies, municipal noise ordinance enforcement, regulatory noise monitoring, and building code compliance.

The tool is not designed to determine whether hearing protection is required in a given environment.

The Service is not designed to detect hazardous noise exposure conditions in real time.
